I got the munchies

Yes, after I was doing good all day, and had eaten a sensible dinner.  As soon as everyone had fallen asleep I caved and I ate some baked chips and finished a soda.  The soda and coffee drinks can really add up so I try to only drink a half can of soda per day (caffeine purposes) and the coffee I allow myself up to two cups ideally I’d like to be at 1 cup.  I estimate my calorie intake at around 2000 today as a result of the additional beverages and chips… I could have done worse thank goodness I didn’t it just sucks though because I had just lost 1 pound after a week of waiting and now I am scared to go on the scale…. Wish me luck when I do. Thanks!

Healthy is as healthy does

I was just reading someone else’s blog regarding introducing organic produce to her family and reintroducing to  herself, and it inspired me to tell you guys a little about what I have found out because let’s face it the better we feel the more energy we can put into getting to our most ideal healthy weight.   Most of the grocery stores do offer organic now - yes they tend to be more expensive, but sometimes they have generic choices too.  If you can just try to buy somethings that you use the most like milk and veggies. They do taste better and since I have started eating more and more organic I have found many of my cravings have diminished.  Coincidence? I think not…

Secondly, since I reevaluated what I put in my mouth I have also taken a hard look at what I put on my body since it absorbs into our skin. So I only use organic shampoos , make up and soaps.  It may sound extreme but if you or anyone else you know has gone through cancer and you realize that 1-3 people get cancer sometime in their lifetime it is worth looking into. I will list some common ingredients for you guys to try to avoid that are in hand soaps and shampoos and makeups and I will put down the reasons to avoid them.  Because let’s face it we ASSUME everything we use is safe and that is not the case. I got this information from www.sukipure.com  If they found lead is in lipstick what else is there in all the other ingredients we use.    Here are a few to truly avoid:

aluminum ingredients:  toxic, carcinogenic  benzoates/benzophenones:  implicated in a wide variety of health problems, testicular cancer, cell mutation, and other cancers  Benzyl alcohol:  harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin.  Severe irritant fo eyes, skin and respiratory system, petrochemical.  BHA and BHT:  Cancer, encourages the breakdown of vitamins such as vitamin d, can cause lipid and cholesterol levels to increase, endocrine disruptor.  coal tar: petrochecmical. look for cad tar or pine ta r instead low-level exposure is linked to cancer. colorants (fd&c and other coal tar dyes): carcinogens, topical irritants, may cause acne and skin irritations, may contain aluminums, have caused tumors in rats, low-level exposure is linked to cancer.  cocamidopropyl betaine:  usually written as derived from palm, however contains a significant petroleum component and can cause serious irratation and allergenic response.  dimethicone (and other methicone ingredients):  cancer suspect, caused tumors and mutation in lab animals.  DEA ingredients (all ingredients with DEA after the first word): cancer  DMAE - Dimethylaminoethanol:  science has not yet reached a conclusive, supportable, position on the exact function(s) of DMAE. it is marketed as “face lift in a bottle” however, what it does is temporarily paralyze the small muscles of the face, making it seem like wrinkles are less visible, no long term results of application are yet known  .  Fragrance:  highly allergenic, no one has to list the chemicals used in fragrances contains large quantities of toxins and chemicals not disclosed.  fragrance-free means that fragrance chemicals have been added to the product to mask the natural aromas of the ingredients.  Glycerin:  look for vegetable glycerin, glycerin without the vegetable qualifier usually means petrochemical.  laureth family (ingredients with laureth, laurate or lauryl extensions): carcinogenic, skin irritants, may be contaminated with large amounts of toxins in manufacturing process, contains ammonium salts, mutagen, acne producing. paba: may cause formation of nitrosamines, cause photosensitivity (ironic) being studied for carcinogenic implications.  parabens:  petro-chemicals, implicated in a multitude of health problems, estrogenic, cancer causing, allergenic, found in breast tissue, possibly, stored in fat cells. petroleum ( mineral oils, vaseline)” acne producing, may be carcinogenic causes long term dry skin, respiratory toxin. talc: may contain asbestos, do not use on babies, linked to ovarian cancer respiratory toxin.

Some of these are naturally surprising but knowledge is power! Let me know about what you have tried too!

Impatient

Well, I must say it isn’t exactly surprising to me that my weight hasn’t changed in at least 4 days.  If I put into perspective I have only done 2 things to make a change in my weight - 1. smaller portions (counting calories as well) 2. increased my activity a bit.  I have not done exercise at all and I still eat carbs quite a bit. So I shouldn’t complain, but I must admit it sucks because although I know I will lose weight this way it will take a long time unless I start working out hard…  It is funny because I procrastinate so much but the minute I start to do something I want to see results.. Atleast I know they will come and heck I have lost some weight even during my first week. Originally I was 168 pounds now I am 163..

Check this out in your portion struggle

In this struggle to lose weight we have to ” retrain” ourselves.  As a child you were probably taught to finish all the food on your plate well that does not hold true today.  We need to read our bodies feelings and stop eating once we are SATISFIED.  Yes, that maybe when only consuming half the food on our plates.  For more info check out  http://health.yahoo.com/experts/nutrition/8709/tips-to-feel-satisfied-with-less-food/

WHY NOT

Why not today?  Everytime I am hungry and want to eat more than one portion I say to myself “If I eat this now later I won’t eat as much.”  I really should not do that and I have decided if I truly want to lose weight that I have got to overcome that battle now.  I cannot put it off for later in the day because what happens later if I am hungry and can’t overcome the urge?  Why not right now make the decision to say NO - I have had my serving let’s wait until it settles and why not even find something to do to keep myself busy in the meantime.  Why not?  That works when I am worried or upset.  Surely by doing that each time that hungry urge does not sucumb I will be better off & see results more quickly -and then maybe I won’t be stuck asking why hasn’t my weight changed in 2 days?

ME

Tell me it isn’t so - I am overweight…  I don’t look that heavy but apparently I am.  Like everyone else I generally try to eat right and even healthy most of the time.  My downfall:  EATING OUT, SNACKS & Extra servings!!  Just one week of eating McDonalds for lunch added a whole 10 pounds to my weight after avoiding it for 8 months!  Gimme a break it is so hard to resist the temptations…Food is a force to be reckoned with!! I tell myself to think about how it will feel to pick out any clothes I want and look good in them!  I also tell myself how good it will feel to join the few and far between crowd that is in shape and not just within their normal weight range, but somewhere in the middle or lower bracket with a cushion!! That is my goal!!  I want to change my eating habits and I know once I do it will be about maintaining them because just like smoking the hardest part for me is just getting over the initial part of overcoming my cravings and urges - then once my appetite has shrunk I can get it and keep it in check!  I now realize the importance of my weight loss now, today.  I want to go this while I am still young and not allow myself to get used to this overweight image of myself.  That is for my thoughts on weightloss today.
